It’s that time of year again. Students from all round the world are panicking, essays are due, exams are being done and the whole student population is perfectly willing to murder anyone who utters the word ‘referencing’ one more time… But it’s also that time of year for those lucky people who are able to spend the week in Cannes.
This year, Cannes seems to be all about that naked dress and HEAVY embellishment. Girls, if a strategically placed sequin is your idea of hell, look away now!
I think we can all agree that there was some kind of unspoken rule this year about embellished naked-ness as proven by the gorgeous ladies above. My personal favourites are Bella Hadid’s custom Ralph & Russo, Izabel Goulart’s Zuhair Murad and Elsa Hosk’s pretty in pink Ermanno Scervino.
This trend, as terrifying as it is, is one that I am loving this year! All the delicate details and long silhouettes look so classy and leave lots of room to play around with hair and makeup. I also love how silver, gold or white are not the only colours you can wear these dresses in, the pastel colours make it more fun and so stylish! I’m not one for green (green has to be my worst colour) but Elle Fanning and Sara Sampaio prove me wrong in their pastel green dresses.
Continuing with the soft palettes, Hailey Baldwin brings a modern twist with a cheeky thigh high split and effortlessly cool hair. While Diane Kruger looks absolutely stunning! Her dress has so much detail and just enough of each part, the ruffles aren’t over-bearing (oh how I love a good ruffle) and the beads are enough to add some sparkle, but not too much. I also love how she’s bang on with the choker trend too, layering a simple black one with a statement silver one, she looks so well put together and this dress is an absolute winner! A bit more tame is Tina Kunakey in this di Vita number. I love how it fits her and the design is so simple, the flare at the bottom makes it more interesting, but most of all, I love how it doesn’t draw away too much attention to her uh-maazing hair and face!
Enough of the girliness, we NEEED to talk about Emily Ratajowski’s jumpsuit! I like how she pushed the boundary a little bit, she looks amazing, with that dramatic ruffle and some more delicate lace, made more sophisticated in the colour choice. This is a very daring outfit, but hell, when you’re Em Rata and you look that good, wouldn’t you? Bella Hadid and Hailey Baldwin have been killing it this week, by going from one end of the delicate scale to the other with some more bold choices. I love the style of Bella’s Dior gown, it looks so flattering yet is so simple and she makes it look so classy and cool. Again, I like how Hailey has picked a bold colour with a delicate fabric, and it really compliments her hair and her natural beauty.
